Hi, fellow LIS fans!
We've talked about it a little bit here and there, so why don't we actually make some real plans to do this? I've enjoyed the virtual company of the good folks on here, and have had the fortune to meet a few of you face-to-face. It sure would be fun to get to know more of you in person! The setting? Ridgecrest, California--ideally situated in between Red Rock Canyon State Park and the Trona Pinnacles, the two striking and dramatic backdrops from LIS's shooting on location. Also, due to the harsh desert climate, it would be best to stage this gathering during the cooler months, somewhere between late October to early March.
I propose we set it for some months in advance, maybe even a full year or more, just to give us adequate time to plan it. That will give us all a chance to put aside some money for the trip, arrange time off from work, and to negotiate the best possible air fare deals. If we have enough people who express an interest, we can see about renting a block of rooms from one of the hotels in the area; Ridgecrest has several major mid-range hotel chains, any one of which would make for comfortable and reasonable accommodations. We can also arrange for a rented SUV (or two or three, as needed) for trekking around the rough terrain of Red Rock and Trona.
During the evenings, we can all meet back at the hotel. We may be able to rent out a conference room with a movie screen and show our favorite LIS episodes via a Blu-Ray projector. We can also create our own fan panels, with episode critiques, model-making, costuming, etc. We could even plan a restaurant meal in which we all go out to eat together...dressed up in our favorite LIS costumes!
I know that coordinating something like this for a lot of people might be a tall order, but if nothing else we can have some fun bouncing around ideas for it. Mull it all over, my friends, and tell me what you think!
